Real-Time Joint Implementation of Motion and Disparity Energy Models through GPGPU Acceleration
Akitoshi Hanazawa (KIT) NC2010-51
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Joint coding of motion and stereoscopic depth in the brain is suggested by psychophysical and physiological experiments. Spatiotemporal energy model and disparity energy model respectively are the models proposed to explain the cells sensitive to motion and depth in area V1 of mammalian brain. These models can be fused into a single model sensitive to both motion and depth simultaneously. Such joint coding has been observed in area V1, and also area MT, a higher region responsible for visual motion recognition. In present study, GPGPU acceleration was employed to enable real-time execution of this motion-disparity fused energy model. The results show the possibility of real simulator of human motion-depth interactive visual phenomena leading to effective coding of motion and depth intermingled visual scene.
