| (in English) | This paper clarifies key relationship between sound localization and head movement. Four subjects participated in the sound localization tests where they localized actual sound sources directly with their ears or via ideal stereo microphones and headphones. The stereo microphones are mounted on a TeleHead that can follow subject’s head movement. With regard to the horizontal sound localization, the correct sound localization rates (CSLR) were 96.9 % and 99.0 % with actual ears for head-still and head-movement condition, respectively. The CSLR were 33.4 % and 56.6 % with stereo microphones for head-still and head-movement condition, respectively, suggesting head movement contributed to decrease front-back confusions as well as in-head sound localizations. With regard to the median plane sound localization, the CSLR were 72.1 % and 88.9 % with actual ears for head-still and head-movement condition, respectively. In contrast, the median plane sound localization was very hard with stereo microphones remain still. It, however, was roughly possible in the head-movement condition. There results suggest that the head movement contribute to improve both horizontal and median plane sound localization as the brain could use changes in interaural cues due to head movement. | |
