Adaptive Packet Recovery Method Based on Recovery Priority for Video Streaming Services

(in English) A video content is composed of many pieces of data which have various importances. The video can be played back with acceptable quality even if data of relatively minor importance are lost. On the contrary, quality
degradation due to loss of important data propagates during certain term. Therefore it is important to enhance packet loss resilience in order to improve QoS. In this paper, we propose a recovery method exploiting multiple streams with considering importance of video data. The proposed method gives priority to each data of multiple streams in terms of recovery from packet loss. Accordingly, this method is designed for recovering important data with higher probability. The priority is calculated based on both inherent importance within a stream and loss
probability of each stream. Our simulation results show that the proposed method can recover more important data with higher probability. Furthermore, the proposed method can also achieve almost the same restoration ratio among multiple streams.
