Influence of the Polarity of a Permanent Magnet embedded in an Electrical Contact to the Rotational Motion of Break Arcs

(in English) Break arcs are generated in a DC42V resistive circuit. A permanent magnet embedded in a pipe-shaped anode made by Ag. Rotational motion of break arcs driven by the permanent magnet is observed with a high-speed camera. The circuit current when the electrical contacts are closed I is changed from 5A to 21A. The starting time and frequency of rotation of break arcs is analyzed when the gap between the anode surface and the magnet surface d is set to 1-5mm. The result is compared with that of cathode. As results, the rotational frequency when periodic rotation of break arcs starts increases linearly with increase of the current. The Lorentz force at that time also increases linearly with increase of the current.
