Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) A lot of data replication methods have been proposed for object placement and management in distributed systems. In this paper, we make a brief survey of replication techniques presented in the course of the past year. Since the purpose of replication varies according to the application service of system, designers must be apparently aware of design criterion which the technique is based on. The criteria are performance, scalability, availability, reliability, and security for instance. The replication methods presented in this paper are broadly classified into two types of methods based on the criteria, performance and reliability. The topics of discussion focus on the number and/or location of the replicas. Those methods are further characterized by the decision making with the object popularity and the management by grouping techniques.
