Effect of Pictogram Size and Pattern in Tactile Recognition

(in English) An availability of pictogram in the tactual map was examined. Eleven sighted people volunteered and experiment was performed under an eye mask. Seven kinds of pictograms were used in this study. The volunteer touched the pictogram displayed on the tactile graphic display and answered the name of its pictogram and they learned the pictogram by the haptic exploration. After the learning, volunteer touched the pictogram of other size. The accuracy rate, conviction degree, cognitive time and intelligibility were evaluated in this task. Before the learning, in the pictogram with previous knowledge, the accuracy rate was increased and the learning time was decreased. After the learning, accuracy rate was about 100% regardless of the size of pictogram. Both cognitive time and intelligibility were changed by size and complexity of the pictogram.
