This paper presents a spectrum sharing technique based on the Channel Occupancy Rate(COR)information of the Primary User(PU) by the Secondary User(SU).
PU and the SU are IEEE802.11a based Wireless LAN, and the goal of SU in this spectrum sharing is to maximize its performance while protecting the PU's performance. The steps of the spectrum sharing are basically the same as the conventional method. SU estimates the COR of PU, sets its target COR, and try to attain the target by controlling size of its minimum contention window(CW).
For spectrum sharing, SU needs to know the upper bound value of COR. In the conventional method, the upper bound COR of the worst case was used, due to which the SU cannot maximize its performance in some cases.
We propose a method to calculate the upper bound COR corresponding to the environment.
In the conventional method, the SU controls its COR by updating slowly its minimum CW on an update ratio.
and the SU could not attain its target readily.
We propose a spectrum sharing technique in which the SU calculates the optimal minimum CW size based on the PU's COR information.
Also, we propose a method for the determination of the COR estimation period that can protect PU's performance. By computer simulations, it was confirmed that in the proposed method, the SU's performance can be maximized and it can achieve its target COR readily than the conventional method. |
