An annular aperture surrounded by concentric periodic grooves in a metal film is investigated using the body-of-revolution finite-difference time-domain method. First, a subwavelength annular aperture is analyzed. The transmission is strongly enhanced when the surface plasmon polariton is excited along the grooves. By choosing the optimum inner radius of the annular aperture, the transmission is increased compared to the conventional circular aperture. Addition of a Bragg reflector at the outermost circumference can further enhance the transmission by a factor of 1.4. Next, a relatively large annular aperture is analyzed, which can contribute to generation of a nondiffraction beam. The transmission which is 17 times greater than that observed without the grooves can be obtained by making the grooves both inside and outside the annular slit. Additionally, the Bragg reflector is introduced on the output surface. |
