Charge-Discharge Characteristics of Telecommunication System with Large-scale Nickel Metal Hydride Batteries

(in English) We have developed an 80-kWh-class telecommunication backup systems using 95-Ah large-scale nickel metalhydride batteries to reduce the footprint comparison with conventional lead-acid batteries. The system which output is 400Abackup time is 3hours consists of 20 series in parallel of 40 nickel metal hydride cells, chargers, dischargers, and an electroniccontrol unit. The electroniccontrol unit monitors and controls the system and reports the state of batteries and errors to the monitoring sites. A simultaneous charge of all batteries and a constant-power discharge was performed very well. The backup systems is very reliable. Compared with lead-acid batteries, The backup systems can reduce 40% occupied floor space.
