| (in English) | It has been demonstrated that two motion-sensitive areas of monkeys, the middle temporal (MT) and medial superior temporal (MST) areas, code distinct motion signals. It remains, however, unclear whether such functional subdivisions also exist in the human middle temporal complex (MT+) or not. Thus, the present study subdivided human MT+ into MT and MST based on retinotopy, and then investigated cortical activity of MT and MST for visual motion stimuli in conjunction with pursuit eye movements using functional magnetic resonance imaging. Our results suggest that MT and MST code for retinal and external motion, respectively. | |
