For the 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) -Advanced specifications, realizing Coordinated multi-point (CoMP) transmission has been investigated in particular for downlink data rate in cell edge region. In order to efficiently exploit macro diversity gain via CoMP transmission, sufficient channel estimation accuracy is required for appropriate transmission parameter selection for precoding control and/or link adaptation even with severe inter-cell interference e.g. in cell edge region. Meanwhile, for reference signal design, sparse density in both time and frequency domain is preferable in order to minimize its impact for co-existing LTE system, which is likely to provide poor channel estimation accuracy. Taking those aspects into account, in this paper we investigate muting on resources colliding to reference signals of other cells. Corresponding numerical analysis are carried out as well with multi-cell link level evaluation. According to results, we identified 1) proposed scheme improves BLER performance compared to conventional scheme for fixed MCS allocation via better precoding control accuracy on LTE-Advanced downlink, and 2) furthermore proposed scheme provides throughput performance gain compared to conventional scheme for adaptive MCS allocation and coordinated beam forming. |
