[Memorial Lecture] To Realize an Information Society Friendly to Humans and the Earth

(in English) In this paper, author introduces R&D activities to realize an information society friendly to humans and the earth, while looking back at ICT innovations and discussing issues in the future information society. Environmental issues like global warming and environmental resource exhaustion are getting increasingly serious, and ICT-based effective resource sharing is one of the keys to construct the sustainable society. It is more important to realize ICT-based personal assist toward an information society friendly to humans because technologies need to adjust to humans, but not the other way around. The research of symbiotic technology to have humans, society, environments and ICT systems to work together will be really expected to create a society where the limited environmental resource is shared and human quality of life is improved.
