Some recent researches of audio and visual are conducted in terms of “sense of presence.” The word “presence” is often used as a synonym for “reality” to assess sound quality of the reproduction system.
Some reports mentioned that the sense of presence also means an actual experience which shakes their hearts.
Its definition is vague among researchers.
According to our survey which identified the factors of sense of presence, a lot of participants answered nearness such as “playing before listeners very eyes” as the definition of sense of presence.
In this study, the psycho-acoustical experiments controlled the distance from the sound object were conducted to investigate relation between nearness and sense of presence.
The results showed that the sense of presence for live music increased by approaching the performer in the real world.
The subjective evaluation of music recorded in different positions showed the sense of presence for reproduced music had a strong correlation with subjective nearness.
The sense of presence for reproduced music sometime surpassed that for live music when the impressions such as “Powerful,” “clear” and “with a broad movement” were strong.
These results suggested that sense of presence might highly evaluate not when live music was reproduced faithfully but when some impressions were emphasized. |
