A study on data hiding in speech signals using cochlear delay characteristics

(in English) This paper reports possibility of data hiding (speech watermarking) in
speech signals based on cochlear delay characteristics and comparative
evaluations of the proposed approach for both audio and speech signals.
The proposed approach is based on the concept of embedding inaudible
watermarks into an original sound by controlling its phase
characteristics in relation to the characteristics of cochlear delay.
We experimentally evaluated our approach for general audio signals by carrying out objective tests (PEAQ and LSD), subjective tests, bit-detection tests, robustness tests (against down sampling, amplitude compression, and mp3-compression), and StirMark Benchmark tests. We then evaluated our approach for speech signals by carrying out similar objective tests (PESQ and LSD), bit-detection tests, and robustness tests by G.711 encoding/decoding. The results revealed that the proposed approach could hide inaudible data into original sounds (audio and speech signals) and could precisely and robustly detect the embedded data from the sounds.
