Self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) were prepared on the surface of ITO, which is one of the most commonly used electrode for organic electronics devices, with a purpose to modify its surface to control the interface between the organic layer and the substrate. One of the methods was to prepare a SAM that has an azo end group, which can be utilized as polymerization initiator. This method was effective in controlling the morphology of monomer films that were deposited on its surface. The other method was to prepare a metal oxide film on the surface of ITO. Vapor deposition of WO3 was effective in increasing the work function of the substrate. The surface free energy of the WO3 was then adjusted by forming SAM layers on its surface. |
