In recent years, researches for computer aided diagnosis (CAD) systems of mammograms have been actively conducted. We propose detection methods of benign and malignant calcifications and extraction method of a big calcification such as coarse calcification and lucent-centered calcification that are a kind of benign calcification as a first step in a classification of benign or malignant calcifications. We use Moravec operator as detection methods of calcifications. In addition, the detected shadow is classified after the shape of coarse calcification where only a part has been detected return to original shape. We apply our method to 180 mammograms. As a result, our method extracted 182 areas out of 202 areas of the coarse calcification. |
