Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The authors demonstrate the effects of molecular orientation on the electrical characteristics of OLEDs, where organic amorphous films are commonly used. The effects were investigated by the two following ways: (1) the comparison of the two films of different materials which have the similar molecular orbitals and the different orientation, and (2) the comparison of the two films of the same material where the orientation are different from each other by a orientation control during deposition. In the both cases, the films with a horizontal molecular orientation showed much higher carrier mobilities than those with a random orientation, demonstrating that the molecular orientation affects the electrical characteristics of organic devices even in amorphous films. The results offer a new guideline for the molecular design of materials used in OLEDs.
