Driving for Reducing Carrier Ultrasound of Parametric Loudspeaker

(in English) A parametric loudspeaker using the self-demodulation of a finite-amplitude ultrasonic wave by the
nonlinearity of the air is promising for improving sound environments. However, ultrasound exposure to human
beings has to be pay attention because intense ultrasounds are radiated from driving parametric loudspeakers. As a solution of such problem a ultrasound source consisted of two coaxially arranged planar projector was proposed. Both the projectors are driven individually at the same frequencies but different phase angles. Generally, when the phases are out of phase, ultrasonic sound pressure amplitudes are reduced by around 10dB without deteriorating the acoustic features of parametric sounds. In this study, configurations of the projectors are discussed to further
reduced ultrasound. Some numerical examples demonstrate that the ultrasonic pressure is reduced by 10 dB while keeping the reduction of only 3 dB for parametric sounds.
