High-impedance surface (HIS) or electromagnetic band-gap (EBG) is one of the metamaterials which are applied in antennas and microwave devices. HIS or EBG consists of a periodical structure made of patch conductors on substrate. HIS or EBG exhibits an in-phase reflection of waves under the magnetic conductor condition. In this paper, non-periodical HIS based on the reflection properties of HIS is presented. In the non-periodical HIS, the reflection phase of each cell is gradient by tuning the distance between patch conductors of each cell. Then the non-periodical HIS reflects electromagnetic waves with steering. |
