Self-Organization by Co-evolution of Phases and Connection Strengths in a Network of Phase Oscillators

(in English) We propose a model of coupled phase oscillators on an adaptive network, in which the phases of the oscillators at the nodes and the weights of the connections evolve simultaneously. We investigate the emergent collective behaviors realized by this co-evolving dynamics of the oscillators and the weights. This system exhibits a two-cluster state and a coherent state with a fixed phase relation when the dynamics of the weights are qualitatively similar to typical learning rules in neural network specified by the Hebbian and the spike-timing dependent plasticity rules, respectively. A chaotic state is realized in the case that the dynamics of the weights and phases are frustrated. Because of its structural stability, it is believed that our model captures the essential characteristics of a class of co-evolving and adaptive networks.
