Effect of error-feedback timing on adaptation of visuo-motor transformation -- Dissociation of movement end and task end using a virtual shooting task --
Takumi Ishikawa, Yutaka Sakaguchi (Univ. of Electro-Comm.) NC2009-127
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Kitazawa et al. (1995) reported that the aftereffect of prism adaptation in manual reaching task was significantly reduced if the visual feedback of the endpoint was delayed more than 50 ms. This suggests that the gain of prism adaptation is higher in a certain "time window" after the movement offset. The authors ran a behavioral experiment on the prism adaptation in a virtual shooting task, asking what sensory cue opens this "time-window." The result showed that the time between the task end (the impact time of a virtual ball) and the visual feedback gave a larger effect on the adaptation gain, compared to the time between the movement end (the offset of the wrist movement) and the visual feedback.
