Introducing N-Version Programming in the Product Line of the Safety Critical System

(in English) The N-version programming, which uses diverse components with a single specification but multiple implementations and performs majority voting operation etc., is a well-known method for software fault tolerance, while it requires more costs to develop the diverse components. This paper proposes a development method for the software product line of the safety critical system with N-version programming. The proposed method derives the diverse components from the core asset without increasing the development cost. Two kinds of feature models, namely product line oriented and component oriented feature models, are constructed. The product line oriented feature model represening product variability is, as usual, used to manage components so that the application engineer can extract the components required for each feature easily. The component oriented feature is used to visualize component diversity. A member of the product line is described by feature selection on those feature models.
