CSMA/TDMA Selection Scheme according to Sensor Data Traffic in ZigBee Beacon Networks

(in English) Wireless channel access schemes traditionally can be classified into two broad categories: contention-based and reservation-based. A common MAC protocol in wireless networks is CSMA (Carrier Sense Multiple Access), which is contention-based random access mechanism. TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) is a reservation-based by scheduling time slots. While CSMA performs well with low traffic, TDMA has good performance with high traffic. This paper proposes a novel pre-schedule scheme. This scheme reserves slots and assigns period of time to each slot according to transmission frequency of sensor nodes. In the beacon mode of ZigBee sensor networks, higher throughput and higher energy efficiency can be achieved by reducing collision rate. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme is effective.
