A Novel H-Plane Waveguide Intersection

(in English) This paper proposes a novel waveguide intersection (or crossover) which isolates two H-plane waveguide systems from each other. If a four-port circuit with four-fold symmetry is completely matched, it has intersection properties necessarily. In this paper, by utilizing the properties, a square H-plane waveguide planar circuit with four waveguide ports connected in four-fold symmetry is matched by metallic posts inserted at the junction without destroying the symmetry. As a result, high isolation properties are obtained in a relatively wide frequency band. For example, a bandwidth of about 9 % is achieved for return loss and isolation better than 20 and 30 dB, respectively, for a circuit designed at the center frequency of 10 GHz. Moreover, from the view of high-power handling, the matching is attempted by adjusting the configuration of the side walls instead of the matching metallic posts, and good characteristics are obtained similarly. This waveguide in-tersection possesses advantages of compactness, simplicity, and high-power handling ability in addition to the good performance. The analy-ses and designs are performed by the H-plane planar circuit approach, and the validity of the design concept is confirmed by experiments.
