Optimal Longcut Route Selection for Wireless Mobile User

(in English) Dependability on network will change and is changing a common sense. Usually people prefer to take a ”shortcut” route when they walk or drive from a location to another. However, for mobile PC users, a ”longcut” route may be vastly preferable for their applications such as thin-client, network games, information search which require continuous network connectivity. This paper, thus, clarifies the effectiveness of a longcut route, which is the optimal route to maximize network transmission, by investigating the tradeoff between the increase of transmission
and the degradation of trip time. In the evaluation, total capacity is calculated based on a regular grid map model with various parameters such as number of access points, access point locations, and start/end locations. The results show that the longcut route can provide much more capacity than the shortcut route does.
