A traffic shift by inter-domain routing change leads to congest the some network link and then affects the service quality. Thus, network operators need to deal with the issue quickly. To alleviate the load of network operators, we developed the monitoring system for the traffic shift caused by BGP routing change. There is big challenge to deal with the huge number of BGP update messages and flow records. Our system has three components: BGP collection, Flow collection, and Correlation component. The BGP collection component builds routing table per peering router, and then it labels updates with types of message. The flow collection component sums up the traffic volume per each BGP attribute from NetFlow/sFlow traffic data. The correlation component monitors the top-N ranking of traffic volume for each BGP attribute. In addition, it detects a change in the time series of the rankings to detect the traffic shift, and then visualizes traffic data and BGP update message data. Finally, this report illustrates the architecture for traffic shift monitoring system, and demonstrates its proto type system. |
