Adaptive Minimum Filter for Precise Time Synchronization on IP Networks

(in English) In a time synchronization protocol over IP networks, such as NTP (Network Time Protocol), the time offset is evaluated by measuring the Round Trip Time (RTT). In this method, to avoid the estimation errors caused by delay variation, the minimum filter technique is employed. For this technique, it is necessary to appropriately select the number of samples, from which the minimum value is selected, with considering the trade-off between filtering effect and stability. This paper investigates on an adaptive minimum filter, which controls the number of samples depending on the variation of RTT values. The adaptive minimum filter is applied to the time synchronization and the time accuracy is evaluated through computer simulation. The simulation result shows that the adaptive minimum filter achieves good time accuracy in comparison with the conventional technique.
