The Earth Clouds, Aerosols and Radiation Explorer (EarthCARE) mission is a joint satellite mission between Europe (ESA) and Japan (JAXA/NICT). The purpose of this mission to reduce the uncertainties in global warming prediction by measuring the three dimensional structure of the clouds and aerosols, which are most uncertain parameter in the numerical climate models. Major instruments on EarthCARE satellites are a lidar (named ATLID) developed by ESA and cloud profiling radar (CPR) developed jointly by JAXA and NICT. This paper reports the current status of Cloud Profiling Radar (CPR) onboard EarthCARE mission, which is Japan-Europe Joint mission. |
