Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The effects of external sound stimulation on cortex-muscle synchronization were studied, coherence between electroencephalography (EEG) and electromyography (EMG) was measured in eight normal subjects during
isometric contraction under the three kinds of experiment using different pure tone stimuli respectively. The tasks were isometric FDI muscle contraction (control condition), isometric contraction with concurrent ignoring of pure tone stimuli (ignore condition) and isometric contraction with concurrent counting of pure tone stimuli (count condition). By comparing the control, ignore and count conditions, the following results were obtained: the cortico-muscular coherence was found at the C3 area, at around 13-30 Hz (beta band). However, no significant difference of the magnitude of the coherence between conditions obtained in each experiment. Generally, it has been considered that cotico-muscular coherence can reflect the cognitive effort of, or the internal attention to, maintaining
the corresponding motor task. Therefore, the present study suggests that such a cognitive effort may not be affected by the pure tone.
