Determination of optimal shape of guidewire based on catheter simulation

(in English) We have studied the determination of optimal shape of guidewire on catheterization. In previous work, two-dimensional determination of optimal shape of guidewire was extended to three-dimensional determination. Search space for optimal shape of guidewire was able to be reduced largely by considering the position of catheter based on actual catheter manipulation. However, the position and direction of catheter tip needed to be determined manually. In this paper, we introduce catheter simulator and propose the method that determines automatically the position of catheter tip in the vessel by simulation considered vessel structure and physical constraint of catheter. Determination of optimal shape of guidewire was performed using the position of catheter tip obtained by proposed method. The result of the proposed method was validated by insertion experiment of the guidewire using the phantom model. In our experiment, the result of the proposed method was obtained similar result in phantom experiment.
