Implementation of list-mode PET reconstruction using GPU

(in English) We developed a 3D list-mode iterative image reconstruction using GPU. The efficiency of acceleration depends on the implementation method. Therefore we evaluated implementation methods to accelerate the 3D iterative image reconstruction. Projection operations are known to require huge calculation time. There are two method in the projection operations, the ray-driven method and the voxel-driven method. In the back-projection operation, the ray-driven method causes memory confliction, and, the voxel-driven method requires long calculation time. The simulation results showed that the reconstructed images calculated by GPU and CPU are practically identical, while the method using the ray-driven method in the back-projection operations by GPU ran over 42 times faster than by CPU, although the method the voxel-driven method ran over 1.3 times faster than by CPU. Our future work will include more acceleration up to real-time processing for our new concept of PET image-guided radiation therapy using the OpenPET.
