Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) We are developing a system for a visually impaired person to learn kanji writing using a haptic interface. Kanjis (Chinese characters) have complicate stroke constructions. A kanji is made up of several components, and required long transition distances between components while writing it without sight lead imbalanced shape. To cope with this difficulty we assist user's pen control by supplying haptic forces on his stylus pen. Our main concerns are providing a sense of distance of pen moves as well as providing a pseudo-sense of writing on the paper. The system is aimed at repeated self-learning of writing a balanced kanji without help of other people.
