Experiment and Evaluation of Communication Quality of Skymesh System via Terrestrial Termial

(in English) This paper proposes a link setup method of the ``SkyMesh'' which is an ad hoc communication system, temporarily established in the sky using balloons to hold communication terminals in the air. The SkyMesh can be used in case of large-scale natural disaster, when telecommunication infrastructure is out-of-service. A link between balloons can be unstable due to swing of sending and receiving balloons. A terrestrial terminal with two directional antennas can be used in-between balloon terminals to replace a link between balloon terminals with a link between balloon-to-terrestrial terminals and that between terrestrial-to-balloon terminals to establish a longer link with better quality. We performed communication quality measurement experiment in Niigata University campus area from
August through September in 2009. As the results, a link between balloon-to-terrestrial terminals can reach about three times longer than that between balloon terminals, with stable and proper communication quality.
