Video Quality Estimation Model for Encrypted IPTV Streams

(in English) We proposed a packet-layer model that can estimate video quality of IPTV services from packet header information. This model takes into account the degraded frames (defined as "invalid frames") whose duration depends on the video frame-type (i.e., I, P, or B frames) with the lost packet and on the structure of a group of pictures (GOP). The frame-type necessary for the calculation of the number of invalid frames is estimated by extracting the starting point of each frame from TS header information and using the difference of the amount of information of each frame. To do this, it is necessary to prepare non-encrypted IPTV streams for optimizing the coefficients of the frame-type estimation model beforehand. However, non-encrypted IPTV streams cannot often be prepared because the payloads (bit-stream information) are often encrypted. In this paper, we propose a method of optimizing the coefficients of the frame-type estimation method by using encrypted IPTV streams. Concretely, the number of invalid frames is first calculated for various provisional coefficients, and a regression curve of the QoE versus invalid frame is then calculated. The coefficients with higher correlation coefficient between QoE and the invalid frame are defined as the appropriate coefficients of the frame-type estimation method.
