High-performance circular-coverage beam horn with multiple coaxial grooves

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) This paper presents the effect of modified multiple coaxial grooves in a multimode horn. Some grooves behave as a mode converter to produce a Gaussian-like distribution like dual-mode horns, and the others behave
like a coaxial ring in simple choked horns with a wide sectoral beam. We present a multimode horn consisting of 4 modified coaxial grooves and linear-taper structure for achieving a circular coverage of 40-degrees angular, by using the optimization technique combined with the mode-matching approach. The calculated and the measured results of the designed horn verify that the modified effect due to rings brings the size reduction of 70% and makes bandwidth broad.
