Theoretical and experimental performance of a lensed fiber employing a plano-convex microlens made of hydrated amorphous silicon is reported. A graded-index-fiber tip that has the same beam diameter with the single-mode fiber (SMF) was spliced to the SMF to ensure fabrication of the microlens with an aspherical surface. The numerical simulation shows that a beam with the mode-field diameter of 10.4$micro$m in the SMF can be focused to a diameter as small as 0.52$micro$m, at the wavelength of 1.55$micro$m. A high focusing power of the new lensed fiber, the focused spot small diameter was measured to be 1.1$micro$m, has been experimentally confirmed. |
