A Hardware-Friendly Object Detection Algorithm Based on Variable-Block-Size Edge Histograms

(in English) The paper presents an object localization algorithm based on the directional-edge information and discusses its hardware implementation.
Since such directional-edge information is utilized in early visual processing in the brain, it is expected that we can build a robust object detection system.A feature detector with a higher accuracy has been produced by adopting the AdaBoost algorithm, which allows us to extract only important information from an input image.In addition, we proposed three methods for generating feature vectors and compared their performances.To evaluate these methods, we focused on pedestrian detection.In the experiment, we verified that this system is more accurate than the conventional method with directional edge information. At the end of this paper, we will explain that the system can be implemented in a simple architecture VLSI hardware because edge information is a very primitive quantity.
