A study on extraction of circular traffic signs using specific color with subtractive color mixing

(in English) In this paper, in order to prevent traffic accidents, we propose that a new method for extracting circular traffic signs using red color with subtractive color mixing from color images. The proposed method works in the three steps as follows: First, areas of inner circles belonging to circular traffic signs are approximately detected by using red color with subtractive color mixing. After detecting the areas, the input image is shrunk for improving processing time. Second, labeling processes are performed to distinguish areas of inner areas from the areas within several limits. Finally, the positions of circular traffic signs are decided by the circularity of candidate inner areas. The experimental results show that the proposed method is able to accurately extract the positions of circular traffic signs with high speed.
