To estimate words read silently from human electrocorticogram which is ess invasive compared to electrophysiological methods, less noisy and renders higher spatial resolution compared to EEG, we conducted a silent reading task in which an epilepsy patient with ECoG electrodes was asked to read silently one of two words randomly presented on a monitor. SVM as employed to estimate the word read silently. We compared results out of five different types of input data with or without electrodes selection. As a result, maximum 74.5% of estimation performance, which is much higher than the chance level, was obtained. Furthermore, the location of the selected electrodes were at or close to the language-related cortical location revealed by the application of electrical stimulation. |
