Gender Identification Method Using Facial Features by Active Appearance Model.

(in English) Considering a communication between human and a computer, it is important to identify gender automatically to provide appropriate information to him or her. Therefore, we built an automatic gender identification system. To get the facial features, we used Active Appearance Model (AAM) that is statistical model describing both shapes and textures which shows the brightness within shapes. The proposed system extracts shape and appearance models from facial gallery images. Then, facial mask are fitted on the probe image from a camera with those models, followed by extracting shape features from AAM shape model as well as appearance parameters. Using these features, the system identifies gender of a person successfully through the Bayesian inference. An experiment result demonstrates on identification rate up to 91.2% on grayscale.
