F-SIR Structure Transmission Line Buried in IC Chip (Part 2)

(in English) In recent years, anomalous electromagnetic responses such as antiparallel phase and group velocities (back-ward propagation) or negative group time delay have been focused, and are wanted to see novel microwave concept and signal processing devices. In this paper, the Folded-Stepped Impedance Resonator (F-SIR) structure, which is small, low loss and easy to make, is proposed as a new and good candidate for left-handed transmission line (LH-TL) characteristic in an inte-grated circuit (IC). At first stage, a planar multistage periodical F-SIR structure is designed on a printed circuit board (PCB). It is demonstrated that the proposed planar F-SIR structure on the PCB has negative propagation constant , which characte-rizes left-handed, experimentally and with full-wave simulation based on FEM. And second stage, the F-SIR in the IC is de-signed in a 4.8 mm square IC, and the LH-TL characteristics are demonstrated experimentally.
