A novel dynamic scattering technique utilizing high frequency ultrasound was developed. This technique is based on the auto-correlation function approach and bears some analogy with the well-established Dynamic Light Scattering method which is popular in the particle sizing for the nanometers-to-micrometers range. Thus dynamic sound scattering (DSS) method has the advantage of being applicable to highly turbid solutions, enabling us to investigate the position dependence of the particle dynamics. The average sedimentation velocity and its variance were analyzed by carrying out DSS measurements from different directions. The average velocity and the particle sizes were evaluated from the vertical setup. In addition, the horizontal setup was explored for estimation of the particle size from the velocity fluctuations. |
