Proportional Fair-Based Channel-Aware Scheduling Considering Inter-Cell Interference for Uplink FDMA Access
Aya Sugita, Kenichi Higuchi (Tokyo Univ. of Science) RCS2009-132
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) This paper investigates the achievable improvement on the tradeoff between average user throughput and cell-edge user throughput by using the proposed adaptive fractional frequency reuse (FFR) method in the uplink FDMA access with fractional transmission power control (TPC). The proposed adaptive FFR allocates the radio resources to the users taking into account both the average inter-cell interference level and the instantaneous channel conditions of respective users. Therefore, the proposed FFR can mitigate the reduction in multiuser diversity gain which was the fundamental drawback of the conventional fixed FFR approaches. The computer simulation results shows that the conventional FFR does not improve the tradeoff between average user throughput and cell-edge user throughput compared to the case without FFR when we assume proportional fair-based channel aware scheduling and fractional transmission power control. However, the proposed FFR can increase the cell-edge user throughput by approximately 15% compared to the case without FFR while keeping the same average user throughput.
