In this paper, theoretical formulas of the tracking error performance(jitter) and the bit error (BER) performance taking account of jitter on the direct sequence/spread spectrum system using pseudo-ternary
M-sequences are derived and evaluated. The pseudo-ternary M-sequence is obtained by reversed-phase addition of $\{-1,+1\}$-valued M-sequence and $1$ chip shifted version of itself. Since the pseudo-ternary M-sequence realizes ideal S-curve characteristics of the manchester-coded M-sequence, the pseudo-ternary M-sequence can improve the tracking error performances. The Delay Lock Loop (DLL) is used as a synchronization system, and in the performance estimate, two-cases of the DLL (Coherent DLL and Non-coherent DLL) are evaluated. In the Non-coherent DLL, the pseudo-ternary M-sequences is superior about $0.8$ [dB] to the M-sequences when the BER achieves $10^{-3}$. |
