On Fairness among Self-Organizing Radio Systems in ISM Bands and Requirement for Their MAC Protocols

(in English) The authors raise an issue concerning MAC protocols to avoid interferences that are used for various radio systems in ISM and other bands where those systems are operating commonly and autonomously, and CSMA/CA (carrier sense multiple access/collision avoidance) is the typical one.
First, the operating circumstances of the radio systems are described.
Next, several examples of definition of ``white space,'' which is one of the most important bases for designing a MAC protocol when a new radio system is introduced, are shown and compared. Finally, the desirable definition of ``white space'' and the MAC protocol to avoid interference are discussed from the view point of efficient spectral resource usage and fairness among the radio systems in the band where there is no distinction between primary and secondary systems.
