An Performance Evaluation of Hybrid Network Coding Applied to Two-way Traffic Relaying Systems

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) This paper proposes a new network coding method, hybrid network coding, that is able to improve the system throughput of two-way traffic relaying systems. Our proposal switches PHY-NC on analog level, relaying method using modulated symbol superposition, and XOR-NC on digital level, relaying method using bitwise XOR, adaptively according to whether each packets of two-way traffics is received correctly. Computer simulations reveal that the proposed method can improve the system throughput up to 17 % by utilizing diversity gain obtained when PHY-NC is employed and leveraging the relay node’s transmit power by XOR-NC.
