Image gamut expansion using the properties of brightness perception

(in English) Recently, the color gamut of display is becoming wider and wider while that of input image is still narrow. When the input image gamut is expanded by increasing chroma value keeping hue and brightness values, the displayed color is sometimes felt unnaturally. Therefore, we focus attention on Helmholtz-Kohlrausch effect. We performed subjective assessments that estimate a range of colors in which human does not feel brightness differences. To realize wide and natural color gamut expansion, this paper proposes a method which stretches the color gamut as wide as possible keeping the transformed color in the estimated range.
