A Fundamental Study on Near Field Localization Using ESPRIT

(in English) ESPRIT, one of the major DOA (Direction Of Arrival) estimation algorithms, can be applied to a far-field source case where the incoming waves can be considered as plane waves. Therefore, ESPRIT cannot be applied to the near-field source case without a modification. In this paper, we propose a modified ESPRIT method, which uses a matrix transforming the real array into the virtual array that satisfies rotational invariance. It is confirmed via computer simulation that the estimation accuracy of our proposed method is slightly worse than that of MUSIC. In addition, it is shown the area size of the window function, which is used in the proposed method, affects the estimation accuracy.
