Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) For replacing samll air cylinders less than 10 mm in diameter, we investigated miniaturization of ultrasonic linear motor, exploring long-life micro linear actuators. Standing wave type has the problem of short life for its small contact area. It is not difficult to enlarge the contact area in traveling wave type. Two transducers are utilized for previous traveling wave type ultrasonic linear motors. In this study, bimorph structure is utilized for miniaturization. The method to excite traveling wave along the bar is to give phase difference between the both sides of transducers. The temporal and spatial phase conditions for exciting traveling waves in both directions are noted. The vibration bar consists of 6 mm-square aluminum bar and 4 thin PZT plates bonding to both sides 10 mm away from the bar end. Being based on the preliminary experiments using the bar acoustically terminated by an absorber attached to the end, the driving conditions were determined such as frequency. Phase difference of 150° and 210° were experimentally obtained to excite traveling wave to the both directions. Out-of-plane vibration velocity of 85 mm/s and in-plane vibration velocity of 23 mm/s were measured by laser Doppler velocimetry with voltage of 350 Vpp. The movement of the slider in the both direction was confirmed and the slider velocity of from 5 mm/s to 10 mm/s was achieved.
