Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Nano-meter-sized diamond particle abrasive agents with tiny and uniform diameter are required for precise polishing of ultra-miniature hard disks with high recording density and their magnetic heads. Nano-meter-sized diamond particles are aggregated immediately after manufacturing. Aggregated diamond particles are disaggregated by using shock wave generated together with acoustic cavitation by ultrasound exposure. Furthermore, the surfaces of disaggregated diamond particles are modified for avoidance from reaggregation by using activated oxygen species like hydroxyl radicals generated together with acoustic cavitation We estimates the surface modification of diamond particles by measurement of zeta potential on their surfaces. We report the investigated results on the relationship between ultrasound exposure time and particle distributions, zeta potential and effect of avoidance from acoustic streaming generated in a water tank of our ultrasound exposure system.
